Summertime Storms Don’t Have To Spell Disaster

Summer often calls for warm, sunny and relaxing days, but warm tropical air can often brew up a powerful summer storm, whether it be a thunderstorm or something more destructive such as a hurricane.

Thankfully Overhead Door Company can keep you ready and protected with our specially designed products, and with important preparedness tips.

If you live in an area where destructive storms, high winds, and hurricanes are more prevalent, you don’t have to sacrifice curb appeal and nice garage doors for wind protection. Our industry-leading wind-rated garage doors offer high wind protection in many stylish designs, combining both beauty and elegance with quality durability. As usually the largest entry point on a home, your garage door is most susceptible to mother nature’s fury when high winds hit. Our Windstorm wind load-rated garage doors, with properly selected wind load options, are designed and thoroughly tested to provide the reinforcement needed to withstand the high pressure conditions caused by strong winds and storms. Of course, be sure to check with your local building official for your home’s specific wind load requirements and appropriate design pressure or PSF which means pounds per square foot, in order to help properly determine which is the best door for your home’s needs. For more information on these fabulous doors we offer, please review our WindStorm product line up on our product homepage or be sure to call or visit us in our showrooms to learn more.

Also, don’t get stranded when these potent storms take out the power. Our garage door opener battery back up unit available for our Odyssey and Destiny openers will do the heavy lifting for you. When fully charged, it can lift the door up to 50 cycles in a 24 hour period after a power outage. If you don’t have one of these type of openers, then be sure to pull the emergency red release cord on your opener to give you access out of the garage and be sure to use your slide lock installed on the side of the door to slide lock your door for security. Just remember to slide the lock back when your power returns so there is no damage to your door!! Additionally, installing a surge protector on your opener will save your circuit board from being destroyed in a lightning strike.

We sincerely hope that summer storms will not wreak destruction on your garage doors or do damage to your existing opener, but if unfortunately it happens, be sure to call us for service if a repair is needed–our rates are very competitive!!! or call or stop by any one of our 3 showrooms to meet with a salesman to learn more about our fabulous garage door products for purchase if you are in the market for an upgrade. We look forward to having you join our family of satisfied customers!!
